Peregrine falcon, Falco peregrinus (honest!)
Peregrine falcon, Falco peregrinus (honest!)

I drove down to Symonds Yat today, to see my old friends the peregrine falcons, whom I have not visited for 30 years. Generations of them have been nesting in the same hole in the same cliff for decades. It’s nearly half a mile from the viewpoint on Yat Rock though, making a clear photograph something of a challenge. Or in my case, an impossibility. The male was perched out on the ledge for much of the time I was there though, and this is really just to prove I saw it!

The steep, wooded walk to the top, was also great for bracket fungi!

Then I drove off to Puzzle Wood in the nearby Forest of Dean, with its fantastic Tolkeinesque landscape. Ferns and mosses abound there, plus the picturesquely elf-sized toadstools below.
