I recorded on Fri 17/06/17 that a ringlet butterfly found its way into our conservatory at home, and how few of these I had ever seen. But today we took a trip out to the lavender farm in Eynsford, and there were ringlets all over the place, including this one:
I also found this groovy robber fly on the border of a poppy field nearby. I’ve only ever seen a couple of these laddies; at a couple of centimetres long and with its elongated abdomen and forward-facing grasping legs, it looks like nothing so much as a miniature damselfly, or perhaps a short-legged crane fly.
