Remember me talking about the beautiful little lily beetle and how its repellent little grubs chew garden lilies to pieces? Well here they are. Firstly, just a reminder of the gorgeous little red beetle, taken from Sun 14/05/17 (right).
Now here are its larvae chomping their way through one of our garden lilies. They are not actually black; they cover themselves with their own excrement as a kind of self-defence mechanism, which may or may not work in the wild, but doesn’t really protect them from me.
The last picture is what they look like when they’ve had a bit of a bath.
