We headed back to Northwood Hill this evening in another vain attempt to hear nightingales. Once again we failed dismally, although that cuckoo is still parping away out there and we heard the female cuckoo once again as well – kudos to my wife for picking up on that one. There were plenty of songbirds about though, and this little bird on a telephone wire in the gathering dusk. It is either a linnet or a twite, but I’m not sure which. If anyone can positively ID it, please let me know!
The flower below right is another confusing one because comfrey (also known as knitbone), also comes in ivory white. These attractive maroon-purple blooms are another variation.
